Columbus International Children's Choir
Our Choirs
The Columbus International Children's Choir is structured to place children and youth into one of its five choirs according to age, vocal and musical ability, and singing experience. The choirs perform both as separate choirs and as a combined choir.
Sunny Smiles and Creative Notes Choirs
The youngest children (K-2) start singing in the Sunny Smiles Choir and the Creative Notes Choir. These kids start with learning the basics of choir singing. This includes special articulation drills, breath exercises, and posture. The children are taught to follow verbal instructions, understand gestures and maintain eye contact with a conductor. Preparing repertoire for performance is an important part of the learning process. These choirs participate in two or more concerts a year.
Rainbow of Voices Choir
The Rainbow of Voices Choir is a beginning-intermediate level choir for children grades 2-4. These children are introduced to the basics of music theory and sight reading. They develop the ability to use healthy and appropriate singing skills: breath control, articulation, and quality tone. The choristers are taught to sing in a variety of foreign languages. The group masters unison and two part singing. The Rainbow of Voices Choir participates in three or more concerts a year.
Swallow Choir
The Swallow Choir is an intermediate-advanced level choir for children grades 4-7. These singers develop and cultivate a healthy tone quality and increase vocal strength. They are exposed to more advanced sight reading and solfege. Rehearsals are designed to include the development of listening skills for more accurate in-tune singing, to maintain a consistent vocal blend and balance. The goal of this level is to increase independence in music reading and singing more difficult repertoire with confidence.
Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is an advanced selected choir. Only the finest singers, grades 7-12, are admitted to this group. These singers demonstrate strong vocal skills, outstanding musical abilities, and responsible behavior. The group performs the most challenging and advanced repertoire.
